You Are Now Uninvited: Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Review

It’s been a tumultuous few months so I haven’t been blogging like I would like to. Depression, PTSD symptoms kicking all the way up, got a new job, then lost said job, etc. It’s been hard. I haven’t been wearing much makeup or buying many new things, but I did remain on the Fenty Beauty train because…. Rihanna, duh. One of my latest acquisitions was the Stunna Lip Paint in Uninvited since I have yet to meet a black lipstick I didn’t want.

Let me start out by stating that I love the formula. Much like the Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored, Uninvited didn’t shift much when it dried down. So that means I didn’t end up with lipstick on my teeth or smeared on the side of my face after eating a sandwich. Because I tend to eat like a ravenous raccoon, yes, lipstick shifts across my face. This is always a huge concern of mine when wearing dark or vibrant colors.

Again, the formula feels great. It doesn’t dry out my lips and also goes on smoothly without tugging or patchiness. I will say, that like with most other black lipsticks, it takes more than one coat to get an opaque coverage in the center of the lips. Mainly because I have really “full” lips. Surprisingly, it did not stain my lips like other black or dark colored long-wearing lipsticks have.

Now for the downsides of this product, because nothing is perfect. The smell. Ugh the smell. If you ever had to dissect a frog in middle school or high school, you remember that smell of formaldehyde. The smell and memory hit me like a ton of bricks. Thankfully, it dissipated quickly, but it has made me wary about using it often. Mind you, I’m not saying that this product does contain formaldehyde because I haven’t seen that listed as an ingredient anywhere. I’m just saying that the smell is very similar.

Another downside, that is very common with pretty much all liquid lipsticks, is that this isn’t an on the go, “let me rush and put this on” type application. While the applicator is pretty good for precision, you will want to have a seat in front of a mirror and have a steady hand when applying this because it can go really wrong really fast. Like those times you plan on doing a thin, elegant wing liner and end up looking like Amy Winehouse.

Also, something that was pointed out to me by my friend Leslie Mac, it does have a greenish undertone so it’s not a universally friendly shade of black.

To summarize:

Pros:
  • Formula applies smoothly with no tugging
  • Not drying
  • Didn’t smear or get on my teeth
Cons:
  • Smells like formaldehyde
  • Greenish undertone
  • Can get sloppy if you don’t take your time when applying

Did you buy this product? If so, how did you like it?
