Review: Coloured Raine Liquid Lipsticks

I have been procrastinating about buying products from Coloured Raine for years and I can’t even give a good reason why. Now that I’ve gotten my hands on just a few of their products I want to kick myself for not hopping on this train sooner.

I picked up their liquid lipsticks in the shades 2AM, Royal, and Jade. I, for some reason, gravitate towards bold colors and I love the selection that Coloured Raine offers in both vibrant shades and more subtle shades. Each liquid lipstick retails for $17 but, I bought these during one of their holiday sales and received each item in my order for 50% off. #WIN

I’ve tried dozens of liquid lipsticks from various brands. Some I’ve liked, some I’ve hated, but I can honestly say that I love these. Coloured Raine has nailed these formulas. When I first got them I was a little skeptical because the consistency seemed so thick I was worried they would be difficult and messy to apply. To be honest, the consistency reminded me of the acrylic paint I used in elementary school that didn’t care if you had an outline, a border, or plan for what you were making. It would just spread wherever it felt. This was my concern when first using these liquid lipsticks.

Thankfully, my fears were unfounded. Yes, the formula is thick but it isn’t sloppy. It stays where you place it and spreads like butter. Another upside of how thick the formula is is that you don’t have to do a lot of back and forth between your lips and the tube. I was able to cover my lips, with no patchiness or sheer spots using the wand straight out of the tube and not dipping it back in.

The shades I picked up were amazingly opaque and highly pigmented. They were also very comfortable to wear. I put these on one after the other while doing a series of swatches for this and upcoming posts. While doing this I didn’t apply any lip balm in between colors. 2AM was the last color I swatched and I kept it on for a few hours after taking the photos and while yes, my lips were dry this liquid lipstick didn’t add to the dryness. It also didn’t get crusty or flaky even though I was desperately in need of some Carmex. I have been so accustomed to these types of lipsticks sucking the moisture from my soul and leaving my lips flaking like a Nature Valley granola bar that this was a pleasant surprise.

All in all, I highly recommend these liquid lipsticks. Whether you like muted shades or prefer primary colors, Coloured Raine has you covered. Even better is that this is a Black woman-owned business and you know I’m all about supporting my sisters. I know I will be purchasing more in the future.
